Garden Earth Lecture Series

Renowned landscape designer Maureen Haseley-Jones is embarking on a statewide quest, through her lecture series titled ‘Garden Earth’ to reconnect people’s hearts and hands with the nourishing energy of Mother Nature’s life giving gardens. Also known as The English Lady, Ms. Haseley-Jones is a sought after and highly respected lecturer, writer, and radio gardening expert heard monthly on WRCH Radio Lite100.5 FM by thousands of dedicated fans throughout Connecticut.

In her naturally humorous and upbeat manner, The English Lady will teach how each of us can oxygenate our environment and feed our souls in a co-creative and symbiotic relationship with the Earth. She will teach not only how to create a beautiful garden that flourishes but more importantly how to maintain it organically and without the use of harmful poisons. But even closer to her heart, The English Lady will discuss ways in which we can, through our garden’s living spirit, become grounded in our bodies, inspired to reach beyond them, and connect at a deeper level of our beings with the meaning and purpose of Mother Nature and her changing seasons.

The English Lady recognizes that now, more than any other time in our history, people need to make conscious choices about their health, lifestyle, and homes. This is imperative not only for mankind, but our planet as well. “We are inexorably entwined with the earth” she says. “People need to know that even the smallest gesture of a garden has positive affects and rewards on the environment.”

Watch The English Lady on television on Life & Style with Sara , an engaging and informative program hosted by the lovely Sara Conner. Watch this talk show and learn all you need about gardening inside and out as they discuss trends, tips, and tools of the landscape, garden, and indoor garden. Dear Maureen,
Thank you so much for sending the Perennial Garden Design Plan for a shade garden. I got some good ideas and plan to share it with our members at our next meeting. We thoroughly enjoyed having you speak to our group and hope it was a fun experience for you too. We were overwhelmed by the number of guests we had - the largest number ever! I heard many positive comments from members and guests alike and will recommend you to the Federated Garden Clubs of CT. They put out a program booklet each year and hope this exposure will boost your speaking engagements.
Happy Spring!

Dear Maureen, I have caught your WRCH segment and was hoping to see an answer to my garden problem on your site. I planted 102 english boxwoods last year, mid August. (Connecticut) They have a considerable about of yellow/brown leaves. What can I do to green these up. Also, can you recommend a beautiful annual to fill in the center of this boxwood hedge.

Thank you.

The English Lady 04.26.09 at 6:15 pm

Dear Lynn, Leave the Boxwood alone and they will green up for you nicely together with new growth in the spring rain and the yellow and brown leaves will fall off. Add aged manure and peat around the base of the plants. Why don’t you try a perennial in the center which will come back for you each year. Choose a perennial from the garden center, read the label regarding bloom time and height and in a color you enjoy. Maureen

Hi Maureen, I will be at the Stanley Whitman House in Farmington for tomorrows tea. I would like to know how I can keep my beautiful tulips coming back next year? Should I dig up the bulbs after the foliage has died back? Or leave them where they are? Looking forward to meeting, Barbara Vasquenza, Avon, Ct.

Nikkole 05.20.10 at 7:57 am

Hello,
I have a hydrangea bush in my backyard and the last two years that I’ve been in my house it hasn’t bloomed once. Why is this? I am so hopeful every summer that this will be the year we will see what color the flowers are but we haven’t had any luck. Do you have any suggestions as to what we can do to make this bloom?
Anxiously awaiting your advice! Nikkole Nelson, Bristol, CT

admin 05.21.10 at 11:48 am

Nikkole, add some manure around the base and keep it well watered, hopefully you have it planted in full sun. Maureen
