Landscape Division
The English Lady has worked eco-consciously since beginning as a company in Connecticut. You see it is not a fad or trend for us but a way of life that has been passed on for generations by our English family since the 1600’s. We believe that the health of our lives and planet is always determined by how we treat it.
We believe your home is your castle and that your property should reflect all the dreams you’ve had for beautiful outdoor living. The English Lady Landscape, LLC, a Design/Build Company for residential and commercial properties, brings beauty and harmony to your property by blending the masculine energy of the architecture with the feminine energy of Mother Nature. Our full service company offers distinctive landscape and garden design followed by superior quality installation and maintenance.
All the plants we use are grown locally so as to insure the best health and hardiness. Locally grown plants are an environmentally friendly means of obtaining the material we need thus using less fossil fuels and non-renewable resources. Our company recycles materials, packaging, and waste as much as possible and reduces noise and air pollution by controlling the amount of time our engines and equipment run.
The English Lady knows that when you create a setting that enhances the character of your home and blends naturally with its surrounding environment, which is both practical and beautiful, that you’ll look forward to the time you and your family can spend in these nurturing outdoor relaxations. From small gardens to complete transformations we design and install everything to fit your budget with a discerning eye for all details in one or multiple phases.
You see, it’s not the garden or landscape that we create but the feelings you have when you spend time enjoying the inspiration of your home. Thus you are assured your piece of earth to be an inspiring haven that inspires, invites, rejuvenates, comforts, and restores.

Hello, I live in Old Greenwich and have a small property that I’ve been cleaning and greening since I’ve lived here - 10 years. It’s all organic though I do have my hemlock sprayed. I have to say that the garden has gotten away from me in the last year. I would like you to come and clean it up and help me solve some of the bad spots where I can’t seem to get the look I’m trying to achieve. I love the english cottage garden look. Do you work in Old Greenwich? if yes, please let me know if you could come to look at the property and give me an estimate (I work in Hartford during the week, so weekends are best for me). If you don’t work in this area, can you recommend someone at the west end of the state that does organic cottage gardens like you?
thanks,

Thanks for inquiring. We are glad to hear from you. We work throughout the Northeast and will contact you tomorrow to discuss your gardens.

I have enjoyed listening to the English Lady on wrch Thursdsy mornings on my drive to work for years and now we I think we need some serious landscaping advice and right away thought of all the stories with Ian and knew where to go for help. Recently a large lot of old farm land was sold next to our property with the drive 10 feet form the corner of our house, which is also a right-of-way for us to use. We really need advice on how to preserve the value of our home and ensure some privacy. Help!
Dear Diane, call the office at 860-767-7319 and speak with Ian, he will certainly be able to give you the information. Maureen
My back yard is a mess, I need new fencing, I want to have my shed moved, and need an outdoor living space that my husband will use. We had a contract to do the work but he got a better job and did that one instead.
Would like a quote, with a plan to do the project in stages. I have big dreams but No time to take on this project
Dear Lynda, call the office at 860-767-7319 and they will be able to help in the meantime I will give them your email so they can start the ball rolling. Maureen
I am planning to design and plant a secret garden for my grandchildren to enjoy.
The path would lead to a Butterfly with a walking path used as the body and the wings designed with low growing flowers. I am having this part of the property clean and ready for early spring planting.
I am looking to have this project designed and planted by a professional landscaper. Would this be something your company might be interested in doing ?
HI Maureen,
I love listening to you on wrch. I love your eco-friendly approach (my husband and I believe so completely in renewable resources that we power our home with photovoltaic cells and have a solar heater for the pool during the season). I love your encouragement that everyone can have a beautiful space in their yard. We have a front yard that I have started with, but it needs help. More importantly, we have a back area with a stonewall and all kinds of things growing back there but it looks over grown and messy. I am very interested in talking with you to get some ideas on how we might move forward. Money is very, very tight right now, so I am not even sure if we can afford a consultation and or/ estimate. However, I decided to ask because I know you had some specials going.
You can reach me at 860-645-9343.
Best regards,
Mary
Mary, lovely to hear from you and to know we are on the same page. Call the office and speak with Nancy and I’m sure something can be arranged. Office number is 860-767-7319 and in the meantime I have asked Nancy to give you a call. Regards, Maureen
Connie, we would be delighted to design the garden for you. Any project associated with butterflies has always been of special interest to me. In my garden earth lecture I let the audience know about puddling for butterflies. They flourish in a sunny, well protected spot with nectar plants, water and flat rocks for sunning. And I create a damp, muddy “pudding” of sand in a large flat dish where the male butterflies can draw up the minerals (sodium) which enhance their libido. Around the puddling area some trees are needed as protection from wind and shelter from predators. Thought you might be interested in this little bit of butterfly news. Please call the office at 860 767-7310 and we can go from there. Regards, Maureen
Good Morning:
We have a Blood Red Maple tree that needs to be moved and transplanted…We are looking for someone who has the equipment to do so…a truck mounted hydraulic tree spade. The beautiful Blood Red Maple is presently in the front yard close to the house behind a stone wall. The tree has outgrown it’s place and the roots are now pushing the wall apart and from that, the sidewalk in front of the wall is lifting as well. We were told the wall needs to come down, the tree should be moved with a tree spade and transplanted in the back yard. The previous homeowners did the work themselves and didn’t think about the tree growing to big…we are told the tree is worth about $3,000 to $4,000…it’s a beautiful tree, so we definately would like to have in a spot that would do it justice and put something else in it’s present spot behind the wall…and have the wall redone and pinned properly. We live in Manchester.
Dear Linda, We would be happy to deal with your tree for you, as we have a complete landscape team. Please call the office at 860-767-7319 and leave your phone number so that Ian can get back to you. Look forward to hearing from you and relocating your beautiful Maple. Maureen
Hi Maureen
We enjoyed your lecture at the Wallingford Public Library. We have two questions; can you divide and transplant Asters now? You gave out garden plans for door prizes and I thought you said we could go on your web site and get a copy. We would like a copy of the shade garden is it possible to down load one?
Thanks
Linda and John, so glad you enjoyed the lecture in Wallingford. You can divide the Asters now and any late blooming perennials in the garden. The laminated garden plans can be found on the website under gift ideas where they can be purchased. Maureen
Hi Ian -
Just checking in to see how the plans are coming - Dave and I kind of thought we might hear something by now. You had mentioned that you were starting them 3 weeks early. I’m getting anxious to plant stuff but trying to hold off until we have a better feel for where things are going. Let me know what’s going on!
Thanks and have a great day!
Debbi
Hi Maureen,
Thought I’d ask you about a problem I’ve encountered with my Coppertina Ninebark (plalnted last year). It seems to be getting covered with powdery mildew and I’m looking for a “green” way to treat it. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Pat
Pat, Make sure the Ninebark has good air circulation to avoid humid conditions which spawn powdery mildew. In the meantime prune off infected plant parts and apply organic lime sulphur and fungicidal soap spray. Good Luck Maureen
